Queen of Deceit - Inks by Longinius-II Queen of Deceit - Inks by Longinius-II
Some more portraits for you guys, because I enjoy doing more detailed ones like this. to be truthful though, I kind of just wanted to draw snakes, and Chrusalis seemed to work the best with snakes. I was thinking of adding some jewellery to the mix, but Chrysalis always felt like the kind of character who would eschew that sort of thing, it's just hard to find something that would fit her. So I wanted to add some more details to the snakes themelves, and colouring them will be the biggest challenge in this pic. :P

Hope you guys like the inks.

That's some pretty good work however I find myself connecting some strange dots.  First I realised one appears to have a sun on it's head and the other a crescent moon.  Then I noticed they seem to be crying.  I came up with the odd conclusion the Chrysalis has turned the royal sisters into her pet snakes in victory.

I know this probably wasn't what you intended but it was a train of thought I wanted to shear.

And you're right, snakes do suit her quite well.

The tears are not real tears but rather markings on the scales that have been painted on to them. As for the emblems, I was thinking maybe the snakes each are an anathema to each given princess, meaning their venom is harmless to anyone else, but is deadly to Celestia and Luna specifically. (Also it just looks really, really cool)

:D Always nice to hear what people think about such things.

I've never seen Chrysalis compared with a snake, but the concept of deceit does fit very nicely with the Changeling theme. Very clever!

She and the changelings are usually just stuck with their insectoid-style. But snakes seem to have worked well. :D

I like your inks so much, they're so clean and nice. I also learnt stuff from them the most. It's nice to see where the lines go before the colors are added.

Aye, Chrysalis is all about austerity, I think. Sacrifice everything you can for the hive - for the good of your children.

Great inking, as usual, and I like how both Chrysalis and the snakes turned out!

I think so too yeah, she has that air about her that she would look down on finery.

Thanks, the colours are looking really good so far as well!

Thanks, I will do my best. :D
I dunno what initially brought the idea up, but I kind of wanted to have both a moon and sun symbol to indicate a connection to the princesse's.

Ehehe, i'm honoured, I hope it works out for you. :D

As for your pic, I think the smoothness of the lines is pretty good, it's not jagged whish is always a good thing. What you should probably work on is consistancy. What I mean is that right now the thickness of your lines varies a lot, but it has very little consistancy.

Let me explain: It's a good thing to have the line at the bakc of her neck thick, as it is a very noticable part where her neck connects to her mane, it's a strong line because it's usually a part that is in heavy shadow. If you look at a lit of my ink work, you may notice that I put thicker lines towards places where joints or othe rconnections between lines occur. The reason for that is that those points are usually "heavier" that long lines, like the curve of a calf. The smae way breasts as well as the cheeks of butts benefot from being thicker lined at the bottom, and then thinner at their most curved part.

You've done a good start here, and you should keep at it, next time try and put thicker lines at parts that need to be in shadow, like the intersections between arm and sleeve, or thigh and pant leg, etc. I'm sure it'll make your lines feel more dynamic. :D

(Of course this is just how I do things, and they may not work the same way for your style) :P

Hope this helps!

Actually this makes me understand a little more about the use of light and thickness on the different areas, thats something that I just realized on your art. Ill try to work more on those parts. so joints are a little thicker than for example long lines right? in this case the legs or the neck line in the front.

thanks for taking your time. this help me a lot.

Happy I could help.

In general, that is right, it kind of depends on a case by case basis for me . For example, I like to make lines pretty thick for a character's back, but in general, I would say that long lines should be thinner. But experiment with different line thickness, and see what looks good with your style. :D You can use line thickness to draw the viewer's eye in to a specific detail, or make they eye move from one part of the drawing to another, since the eye wants to focus on contrasting parts of any given image. :D

I love this! All the main ponies have a different pet creature; and Chrysalis really does go well with pet snakes. Sun and moon snake... one for Celestia and one for Luna?

It would seem fitting in a way, but I dunno if Chrysalis would even be able to show any form of affection towards a pet. XD

Yes, the sigils do indicate the Princesse's, maybe they we're raised to be poisonous specifically to the two?

Sounds like a good story premise :)
At least, that is somehow the type of scenario that I though when I saw this.

Though you're right, pets probably aren't her type of thing - she is rather ruthless.

Wow! :wow: This came out fabulously :D First off, amazing work on Chrissy's soul-captivating eyes. You always do such a fantastic job, when it comes to drawing those, including her lashes and other, related details  Next, incredible work on her mane, with how it flows with such luscious beauty and elegance  Third, very nice expression you've given her. Always love it when she's sporting a wicked grin, like the one she's got here :meow: As for her horn and crown, fabulous work drawing both of them, with such amazing detail ^_^ And finally, stellar work on those snakes. They fit her very well, what with their cunning, sneaky and deadly vibes

Very, VERY nice work

Eheheh, I knew you would enjoy this one as usual. XD
I think this one has the best horn out of all the ones I have draw of her so far! I also manages to make her crown look ledd like a gnarled hand. XD

The colours for it are looking pretty good so far, so look forward to it!

That is so insane! Amazing art! It's been some time since I saw your last Chrysalis sketch which I liked a lot because of Her unique look. And so here is another one, portraying the most incredible and beautiful being in a company of serpents which are making some sort of cloak for Her! I love how you've drawn Chrysalis's beautiful eye, lashes, gorgeous smile, sweet ears and mostly in this piece - Her astonishingly designed horn and crown! She is so gracious and majestic! I'm not surprised that even vicious predators are willing to bend to Her will! Heart
