This picture impresses me a great deal as it not only displays a faithfulness to the original source material, but does it in a way that shows-off the distinct art-style of the picture’s creator, which is not an easy thing to pull off.

Even though I may love the flash-look of the show, I cannot deny that the sheer amount of detail that has gone into this picture shows an incredible amount of artistic talent. This is not an artist who does things half-heartedly. They put their all into making this as good a picture as they could possibly, make.

Celestia’s design and colour-scheme are all spot-ion from what they are in the show, although the artist has clearly gone to a lot of effort into displaying the details of some of her standard attire, such as her shoes and crown. The muscles are visible and the whole thing seem, anatomically speaking, much closer to a real-life horse than the more “cartoony” design of the show.

When it comes to her dress however, I find myself in a difficult position. I have stated numerous times that I am a complete novice when it comes to the world of fashion, or “what clothes look good”. Having said that though, I can’t say I think the dress looks bad, because personally I think it suits her quite well and matches her design and colour-scheme effectively. And once again, we have a case of just how much care has gone into this design as the clothing shows off many little details that others might leave out, such as the folds in the fabrics, that are all very impressive to me.

The only thing I might be able to criticise is the lack of a background. To me this whole thing just looks like Celestia standing in front of a coloured screen. But that’s a personal thing and I would never hold it against the artist if that was their intention.

All-in-all this is a very impressive picture that I would even go so far as to say is one of the best Celestia picture’s I’ve seen on the site so far, and that’s saying something.

I have been gathering your work as reference material for my drawing practices, so you could imagine the excitement I felt when I saw your work. Especially when I am writing my very first critique for this piece.

Princess Celestia in royal attire/dress is a subject explored by many other artists before, with varying degrees of detail and/or success. The challenge for drawing on that subject always comes in three; the body and pose, physical design of the dress, and color scheme of the entire composition. An artist trying to capture her regal beauty would know that the work will be done only by pushing oneself to get those three parts up to his/her satisfaction. (This may be applied to any other drawing that depicts a pony in formal attire, if I humbly add.)

Her body and pose are as impressive as always. One thing that particularly stands out in your work is the muscular structure you give to the ponies, making them stand out with more depth while giving them more body mass needed to support the limbs and the head. I should say you are one of the few artists that can compare to ECMajor or Noel in that regard. Her emphasized right eye, smile, wings and the forward triangle formed by the amethysts indicate confidence, while her steps show the subtle control she has on her motion.

Your design of her dress is the best I have ever seen. Since I have absolutely no experience in designing clothes whatsoever, I would just say it is a huge achievement to put together individual pieces of clothes on a pony and make then NOT look like lingerie. I think it's the straight collar, contrasted with the deliciously detailed creases and wrinkles on the rest of her dress, that did the job. The sheen and gloss of jewelry is also very fitting and beautiful. I am wondering if the sharp tips of the jewelry would be a bother, but I will leave that to your discretion.

The color scheme is as lovely as the rest of the piece. The creamy color of the dress makes the entire composition look warm and soft, while the amethysts and her eye stand out and accentuate the otherwise uniformly warm picture. Overall, it is very easy and pleasant for the eye to see the entirety of her form.

The only improvement I could think of would be to make the wings larger with additional layers of feathers, perhaps exaggerating it a bit so that it can fill the center of the picture even further.
